Many men turn to plastic surgeons because they feel their breasts are too feminine or perhaps too large, which can lead to serious frustration and lack of self-confidence in their private and everyday lives. Male breast reduction offers the opportunity to regain a masculine appearance and self-confidence.
During the first free consultation, you will meet your future surgeon, who will examine you, listen to your expectations, and then discuss the possibilities and expected results together. Subsequently, they will explain the procedure of the surgery, show you where the surgical scars will be located, and discuss potential complications.
The feminine enlargement of the male breast can be caused by hormonal changes during puberty or by hormone-containing and other medications. In this case, there are three possibilities: the otherwise small, negligible glandular tissue, which is present in the male breast, enlarges and becomes palpable as a lump, or the fatty tissue proliferates, or both happen at the same time, and the male breast can even become the size and shape of a female breast.
Three types of interventions can be used, depending on the different cases. In the first case, only the enlarged glandular tissue can be removed from an incision made around the areola. In many cases, however, this is not enough and must be combined with liposuction, after which a special vest must be worn for 4-5 weeks to ensure that the skin retracts evenly. In the third case, the problem can be effectively solved with liposuction alone.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia, followed by one night of observation. It is important to refrain from sports or physical work for 4-5 weeks. If liposuction was also performed, a special vest must be worn for 4-5 weeks. Possible complications include bleeding, inflammation, wound healing disorders, or nerve disorders.
